In Australia’s first innings, Shaun Marsh (130) brought up his fourth Test ton and Steve Smith (119) his fifteenth, combining for a record 246 run second wicket partnership against Sri Lanka.
Mitchell Marsh also contributed to Australia’s tally with a handy 53 runs before being caught at short leg by Kusal Mendis off the bowling of Rangana Herath.
Shortly after, the tourists were bowled out for 379 runs.
Australia bowled five overs before the end of play and Mitchell Starc (1-19) picked up the wicket of Dilruwan Perera (8).
